About Tai Tanzania
We aspire for change and growth, meaning we capitalize on providing positive change in our community and gain personal and professional growth. We are a youth-led NGO in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We aspire for change and growth, by contributing to projects that bring positive change in our communities.
Tai Tanzania (Tai) is a youth-led non-governmental organization (NGO) that believes that education is a powerful tool in helping young people to reach their full potential. Tai was founded in 2012 and registered in 2013. Tai’s vision is to create social behavioral change in order to live in a society where youth are responsible leaders in ensuring sustainable development. In order to do so, Tai focuses on creating environments that will foster adolescents’ access to school, since education plays a crucial role in children’s and adolescents’ future lives.
Tai is currently working on three projects, all promoting social behavioral change.
Tai is currently implementing the Darubini Project that aims to address Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) related to challenges that prevent adolescents from attending school. The project is implemented through the use of 3D animations, whereas a series of SRH topics are being disseminated to targeted groups through a participatory approach. In order to address teenage pregnancy and girl’s school drop out, the Darubini Project means to improve knowledge and awareness of SRH to adolescents. In so doing, the project will pave the way for behavioral change of adolescents and their communities.
The Pamoja project is using 3D animation videos to create awareness about issues faced by disabled people in Tanzania and to reduce stigma and taboo related to this often-marginalized population. Tai works directly with the disabled community to implement this project, as they recognize the importance to encourage inclusion.
Tai also runs the Education Scholarship Program, which provides education scholarships to potential secondary students who live in underprivileged communities. At implementation, this program sponsored 30 secondary students in Morogoro, including school fees, uniforms, and supplies, as well as medical coverage, meal allowances, sanitary pads, and bicycles for transport.
